The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Grant County in eastern West Virginia...



* Until 930 PM EDT.



* At 623 PM EDT, Local law enforcement reported thunderstorms 

  producing heavy rain across the warned area. Highway 42 between 

  Petersburg and Maysville has approximately 2 feet of water on it 

  near Lunice Creek. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The 

  expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional 

  rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. 

  Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.



  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.



  SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.



  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban

           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as

           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. 

Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.
