The National Weather Service in Wakefield has extended the



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  York County in southeastern Virginia...

  The City of Hampton in southeastern Virginia...

  The Southern City of Newport News in southeastern Virginia...



* Until 930 PM EDT.



* At 718 PM EDT, National Weather Service doppler radar and rain 

  gauges showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned 

  area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional 

  rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. 

  Flash flooding is already occurring in Newport News.



  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.



  SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.



  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban

           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as

           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Newport News, Hampton, Langley AFB, Northampton, Beaconsdale, 

  Hilton Village, Raleigh Terrace and Langley View.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.
