The National Weather Service in Dodge City has issued a



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Northwestern Comanche County in south central Kansas...



* Until 115 AM CDT.



* At 716 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 

  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain 

  have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 4 inches in 1 

  hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in 

  the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin 

  shortly.



  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban

           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as

           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Coldwater, Protection and Lake Coldwater.



This includes the following streams and drainages...

  Calvary Creek trib 3W of Coldwater, Kiowa Creek, Calvary Creek 

  trib SW of Coldwater, Cavalry Creek tributary, Cavalry Creek trib

  River, S.Fork Arkansas River trib, Bluff Creek Trib 2SW 

  Protection, Cavalry Creek, West Branch Nescatunga Creek, Cavalry 

  Creek trib 4S Coldwater, Bluff Creek Trib 3W Protection, Mule 

  Creek Trib east of Sitka, Bluff Creek and Calvary Creek trib 2W of 

  Coldwater.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.



Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
