...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 AM MDT SUNDAY...



* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall 

  continues.



* WHERE...A portion of south central Colorado, including the 

  following counties, Conejos, Mineral and Rio Grande.



* WHEN...Until 300 AM MDT.



* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 

  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams 

  continue to rise due to excess runoff from both ongoing and 

  previous rainfall.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 1141 PM MDT, local law enforcement reported flooding in

    the area continues. Fall Creek Road and Park Creek Roads were

    reported flooded or impassable, though conditions were

    improving. Between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen

    with up to 4.5 inches estimated on the southwest facing

    slopes.

  - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the

    warned area. Radar imagery and area observations show that

    moderate to heavy rainfall continues across the warned area

    as of 1130 PM MDT.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding

    include...Smaller creeks, streams and tributaries in the Wolf

    Creek Pass, Platoro and Cumbres Pass areas, as well as the

    back country of southern Mineral, southwest Rio Grande and

    western Conejos Counties.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads and normally dry washes 

is likely. Additional heavy rains may trigger rockslides, mudslides 

and debris flows in steep terrain, especially in and around these 

areas.



Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where 

you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become 

killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or 

creeks tonight!
