A potent mid-level trough will rapidly traverse the Southwest and impinge on the southern Rockies today, encouraging rapid surface cyclone development along the central High Plains. As this occurs, isallobaric and downslope flow will encourage dry and windy conditions across much of the central and southern High Plains that will be conducive to wildfire-spread.
