####018004180#### FNUS63 KFSD 130917 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 417 AM CDT Tue May 13 2025 .DISCUSSION... Issued at 405 AM CDT Tue May 13 2025 Hot, very dry, and breezy conditions will again result in critical to near-critcal fire weather conditions across the area today. With temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s and afternoon dew points in the 40s, RH values will drop to as low as 20 to 25 percent over a good portion for the area. Because of this, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, and parts of northwest Iowa. While temperatures and wind gusts will be similar on Wednesday, an increase in low level moisture will result in dew points into the 50s. This will yield afternoon RH values ranging from around 25 percent to 40 percent. As a result, the fire danger while still elevated will be lesser than recent days. Thunderstorms are expected to develop over central South Dakota by late afternoon, pushing eastward across the area into Thursday. This will usher in much cooler temperatures for the end of the week. People are urged to exercise extreme care with respect to outdoor activities that could cause grass fires. Avoid equipment that can cause sparks near dry grass or brush. Do not toss cigarettes on the ground. Report new fires quickly to the nearest fire department or law enforcement office.
