Strong westerly winds will become prevalent across much of the forecast area today through Friday, with occasional gusts as high as 45-55 mph expected. Thankfully, a broad area of showers and thunderstorms which moved across the region Wednesday evening and early this morning has produced some very beneficial rains over our driest areas across southeast South Dakota/southwest Minnesota and far northwest Iowa. This along with a much cooler air mass, additional rain chances through Friday and again early next week, and higher humidity levels into the weekend will put any concerns of fire danger in check for much of the next week.
