####018002051#### FNUS63 KFSD 050845 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 345 AM CDT Mon May 5 2025 .DISCUSSION... Overall greening of new growth fine fuels appears sufficient to keep grassland fire danger on the low side. However, areas west of I-29, and especially west of US Highway 81 will see south to southeast winds gusting to around 25 mph at times. Humidity levels also remain low, bottoming out at 20 to 30 percent this afternoon. This combination of breezy winds and low humidity may result in elevated fire danger in localized areas where the tall dormant grasses are still the dominant fuel. These localized fire danger concerns will ease over the next few days, in response to lighter winds Tuesday, and slight increases in humidity levels by Wednesday and Thursday. The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored. OUTLOOK FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$
