.DISCUSSION...



Morning clouds and lingering sprinkles will dissipate by mid-morning.

In their wake, a prevailing northeasterly surface wind fetch will

gust at times over 20 mph through mid-day. Winds will slowly weaken

during the afternoon, with the the potential for some variable wind

directions developing within the Missouri River valley and Glacial

Lakes areas. 



Thursday brings a wind shift to the region to the south in most

locations. Winds generally remain light in nature, strongest in north

central South Dakota, with lighter and more directionally variable

winds in the northeastern portions of the state. Dry weather is

expected.

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,

and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the

probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under

these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety

precautions, but should be monitored.





The outlook for Thursday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index

will reach the low to moderate category.
