THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED A SPECIAL AVALANCHE ADVISORY FOR ALL OF THE COLORADO MOUNTAINS * TIMING...In effect from 6 AM Saturday, February 16th until 6 AM Tuesday, February 18th * WHERE...This special avalanche advisory is for all ten Colorado Avalanche Information Center backcountry forecast zones * WHY...A strong storm on Friday night brought 1 to 2 feet of dense snow with strong winds to many mountain locations. Snow and wind continues through the weekend. Backcountry travelers can trigger large and dangerous avalanches in many areas of Colorado. Avalanches can break in the new storm snow or deeper, entraining the whole season's snowpack. * PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Backcountry travelers should consult www.colorado.gov/avalanche for a specific zone avalanche forecast before heading into the backcountry.
