####018001958#### AXPQ20 PGUM 240010 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 1010 AM ChST Thu Apr 24 2025 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH... A near-equatorial trough meanders through the Philippines to enter Micronesia at 5N130E to end near EQ145E. This trough has westerlies to the south of it, but the westerlies do not extend all the way back to the Indian subcontinent so it is not at this time a monsoon trough. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are found in southern portions of the Republic of Palau, including Tobi and Helen's Reef (Hatohobei) but south of Angaur, and south of Yap State. This feature is expected to intensify slowly while showing little change of position over the next several days, and early next month could morph into a true monsoon trough if it can connect to the westerly winds coming off of India, as those start to get going in May. TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A trade-wind trough in the CNMI is creating scattered showers from Anatahan northward. This trough is expected to shift westward while gradually weakening, as it is part of the remains of a frontal system. Another trade-wind trough near Chuuk is generating scattered showers in eastern Chuuk and western Pohnpei States. This feature is forecast to shift westward with little change of intensity over the next few days. A third trade-wind trough near Kosrae is producing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near and south of Kosrae. This feature is also expected to shift westward with little change of intensity over the next few days. $$ Stanko
