Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from

03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and

from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following

information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,

radar, and meteorological analysis.



Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through

0730 UTC.



...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...



The monsoon trough extends from 09N84W to 06N108W. The ITCZ 

continues from 06N108W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate to 

isolated strong convection is noted from 03N to 10N between 82W 

and 127W, and from 03N to 07N between 133W and 140W. 



...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...



Gentle to moderate winds prevail west of the Baja California

peninsula then extending southward to offshore Cabo Corrientes. 

Light to gentle winds are elsewhere over the open waters off 

Mexico. Gentle to moderate winds are in the northern Gulf of

California, with light to gentle winds elsewhere in the Gulf. 

Seas are in the 5-6 ft range over the open waters off Mexico, and

3 ft or less in the Gulf of California. 



For the forecast, fresh NW winds will pulse offshore of Baja

California Sur, including near Cabo San Lucas, tonight and 

Sat night. Fresh to strong SW winds will pulse in the northern 

Gulf of California nightly through this weekend. Widespread 

moderate to fresh NW winds, and rough seas, will develop this 

weekend and continue into next week offshore of Baja California.

Fresh to occasional strong N winds will pulse in the Gulf of 

Tehuantepec this weekend. 



...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, 

AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...



Moderate to locally fresh winds are in the Gulf of Papagayo and

Panama. Light to gentle winds prevail elsewhere. Seas are in the

4-6 ft range, except to 7 ft S of the Galapagos Islands. 



For the forecast, moderate to fresh E winds will pulse in the 

Gulf of Papagayo each night and morning into next week. In the 

Gulf of Panama, moderate to locally fresh winds will pulse 

nightly into Sat, with generally moderate winds expected 

thereafter. Long period southerly swell will bring rough seas 

offshore of Ecuador tonight into Sun, including near the 

Galapagos Islands. 



...REMAINDER OF THE AREA....



High pressure dominates the waters N of 15N. The pressure

gradient between this area of high pressure and lower pressure in

the vicinity of the ITCZ is supporting moderate to fresh winds N

of the ITCZ to near 18N and W of 120W. Seas over these waters are

in the 7-9 ft range. Gentle to moderate winds, and seas of 5-6

ft, are N of 18N and W of 130W. Gentle winds, and seas of 5-6 ft

are elsewhere over the discussion waters.  



For the forecast, little change in winds are expected across the

discussion waters. Rough seas will prevail over the area of

fresh winds in the tradewind zone over the western waters through

the period. Long period S swell will propagate into the southern

waters, bringing rough seas to the waters south of 05N between

100W and 120W through Sat morning before seas slowly subside by 

Sun. Locally fresh N to NW winds and rough seas will develop 

tonight north of 27N behind a cold front moving through the 

northern waters.
