####018002485#### AXPQ20 PGUM 060108 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 1108 AM ChST Tue May 6 2025 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... Most of the trade-wind troughs in the region are concentrated within the leading edge of a trade-wind surge spanning much of central Micronesia. A more notable broad trough extends from Sorol southeastward to end near EQ146E along the southeastern fringes of Yap State. Moderate to occasionally deep convection is associated with this feature, producing scattered to numerous showers across a large area from 140E to 145E between 7N and the Equator across much of eastern Yap State. Other troughs are more minor, remaining mostly transient in nature as the convergence zone builds to the east. The aforementioned troughs will begin to buckle and dissipate under the diffusive ridge they encounter to the west, with most of the convection shifting toward the Equator over the next several days, with more troughs forming upstream. CONVERGENCE ZONE... A convergence zone spans much of central and eastern Micronesia. This zone of building convection is producing numerous to widespread showers between 5N and the Equator from the aforementioned broad trough eastward across Yap State, Chuuk State, and through Pohnpei State west-southwest of Kosrae. This feature is expected to intensify slightly and shift northward, as a buffer circulation attempts to form well south of Chuuk, before weakening during the weekend. OTHER SYSTEMS... DIRTY RIDGE... In the wake of a disturbance moving near the eastern shores of the Philippines, a dirty ridge has formed from 6N130E north-northeast across Palau and ending northwest of Yap Proper. This feature is inducing mostly light diffusive flow east of the ridge axis, buckling all trade-wind flow upstream that is producing spontaneous convection well south of Yap Proper. This feature is expected to dissipate overnight, allowing the convergence zone upstream to move into western Micronesia over the next few days, to then allow a new NET to form over the weekend. $$ Montvila
