Patchy blowing snow possible Sunday morning. - Colder on Sunday and Monday with wind chills around zero Monday morning. - Warmer than average and mild conditions return Tuesday and remain through the rest of the workweek. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 145 PM MST Fri Dec 26 2025 Mild and dry conditions continue through Saturday with southwest flow aloft and light surface winds. High temperatures will be mainly in the 60s with perhaps a couple of spots managing to reach the lower 70s. Upper trough axis will move into the Rockies Saturday night and into the central plains on Sunday. Associated surface cold front will move through the area Saturday night, entering northwest corner (Yuma County) by 02-03z and exiting southeast corner (Gove County) by 06-07z. Northerly winds gusting up to 55 mph will accompany the frontal passage and continue to be gusty through the night. Some patchy blowing dust may also develop with no recent precipitation and a dry frontal passage. Any light precipitation will lag behind the front and probably not develop until towards 12z with the upper dynamics. Cannot rule out a brief period of light mixed precipitation before quickly changing to all snow with the cold air. Best chances for light snow will be Sunday morning into early afternoon. ECMWF showing up to 1" possible in a narrow band south of Interstate 70 from Colorado into northwest Kansas. Gusty northwest winds of 40-50 mph will still be occurring at that time, so may see some patchy blowing snow develop once it starts to accumulate. Finally, temperatures on Sunday will be much colder, with highs in the upper 20s to lower 30s and lows Sunday night in the single digits and teens. Coldest wind chills will be Monday morning around zero. Northwest flow follows for Monday afternoon with temperatures climbing back into the upper 30s and less wind. Lows Monday night will be in the teens. && .LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 1203 AM MST Sat Dec 27 2025 Throughout the day Monday and overnight, a ridge will build in, allowing temperatures to start a warming trend through the long- term. Highs on Monday should warm into the mid 30s to near 40, but Tuesday and Wednesday look to warm into the upper 40s to 50s. Overnight temperatures will also be warming, with Monday night's lows largely remaining in the mid to upper teens and the following two nights remaining in the 20s. Tuesday, RH values are expected to dry to around 20% for areas along and south of U.S. 40. Winds are expected to remain under 15 kts, so fire weather is not a notable concern at this time. This is the best day for fire weather concerns, so we'll continue to keep an eye on it. Thursday, long range guidance is showing a trough move southeast over the Great Lakes, pushing the polar jet slightly to the southwest. This will lead in mildly cooler temperatures Thursday. The northeastern CWA looks to be capped out in the low 40s with the southwestern CWA warming to near 50. Overnight lows don't seem to be impacted too much, likely remaining around 20 for lows. However, temperatures look to rebound quickly the following days. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 1024 PM MST Fri Dec 26 2025 VFR conditions are expected to prevail through most of the period. KGLD will see variable winds all day, but sustained speeds could be closer to 10 kts with a few gusts of 15 kts. Around 2Z, southwesterly winds are expected to pick up right before the cold front hits. KMCK will see some LLWS at 300-500 feet AGL from the southwest around 35 kts before 8Z. After that, variable winds will persist until the cold front hits. With the front, which is expected between 4-7Z, north- northwesterly winds will start gusting up to 30-40 kts fairly quickly. There is a 5% chance some patchy blowing dust gets kicked up behind the cold front and there could be some very light rain with the front, too. Bigger impacts will be moving in around 12Z, expect IFR conditions by 12Z Sunday at both airports. && .GLD WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... KS...None. CO...None.
