After this change, any notification of heat-related weather hazards will be communicated using Heat Advisories, replacing the use of Special Weather Statements for the purpose of notifying the public and partners of potentially hazardous heat. Specific thresholds for issuing Heat Advisories are as follows: Temperature threshold for Fairbanks (AFG) Forecast Area: 85F maximum temperature for public weather forecast zones: AKZ831-AKZ846 75F maximum temperature for public weather forecast zones: AKZ801-AKZ829 & AKZ847-AKZ852 Temperature threshold for Juneau (AJK) Forecast Area: 80F maximum temperature for public weather zones: AKZ317- AKZ332 (all zones) There will not be any duration criteria for the Heat Advisories, meaning that as long as the maximum temperature is forecast at or above the temperature criteria for a respective area that day, a Heat Advisory will be in effect. Heat Advisories will be issued via the Non Precipitation Weather message (NPW) with the Valid Time Event Code (VTEC) phenomena code of “HT.Y.” WFO Product Identifier(s) WMO Heading ------------------------------------------------------- Fairbanks (AFG) NPWAFG WWAK73 PAFG NPWWCZ WWAK72 PAFG NPWNSB WWAK71 PAFG Juneau (AJK) NPWAJK WWAK77 PAJK These changes will allow WFOs Fairbanks and Juneau to better communicate heat information and impacts in their forecast areas.
