The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in Miami will be conducting a required update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) system from Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 through approximately Thursday, May 1st, 2025. The NWS uses the AWIPS computer system to display and integrate weather and water information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather and water warnings, to the public. During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted by NWS Miami staff utilizing our service back-up office in Key West to minimize any potential interruption to services. No impacts to our core services of forecast products and weather watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period. However, limited impacts will occur to the following services: * All NOAA Weather Radio transmitters maintained by NWS Miami will be off air through the time of the install. This includes the following transmitters in Florida: Miami, West Palm Beach, Naples, Belle Glade, Homestead (Princeton), and Hialeah (Spanish-language service). * A few graphical forecast maps and climate text products (CLI, CF6) are unlikely to update during the outage. * Updates to the forecast recording line (305-229-4550) will be unavailable during the upgrade. * Some additional data, such as upper air observations, may be slightly delayed as it is routed through our back-up system. * Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TMIA/TFLL/TPBI) data may not be available during the outage. The forecast office in Miami will remain open and staffed throughout this period. $$
