KEY MESSAGES: * Warm and dry conditions are expected today with upper ridge moving through Montana. * An upper trough will bring cooler temperatures to the area Wednesday and Thursday with chances for light rain mainly south of the Missouri River. . WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Upper ridge moves across Montana today with mostly clear skies. It will be a warm day today with highs in the 70s in most areas. A cold front moves through the area Wednesday morning ahead of an upper trough that will move across Montana between Wednesday night and Friday. Chances for rain showers start during the day on Wednesday in the west and spreads across the entire region Wednesday night and continues on Thursday mainly south of the Missouri River with a mix with snow at times. Precipitation chances move to the south Thursday might as surface high pressure moves into the forecast area. Models and ensembles are taking the deeper moisture to the south of the forecast area. The NBM probability of 0.10 inch for Wednesday and Thursday is 10 to 20% north and 60-80% south with this system. North winds behind the cold front on Wednesday and Thursday may be high enough for a Lake Wind Advisory for Fort Peck Lake. Upper ridge moves into the area on Saturday with dry weather.
